The "black book" is Epstein's personal contact directory, stolen by former employee Alfredo Rodriguez in 2009 and later subpoenaed by investigators. It contains nearly 2,000 names with multiple contact numbers and addresses.
Some entries have hand-drawn circles around them. The significance of these markings remains disputed. Rodriguez claimed the circled names were "ichest" to Epstein, while others suggest different meanings.

Alfredo Rodriguez, Epstein's former house manager, stole the black book and attempted to sell it for $50,000. He was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Rodriguez died of mesothelioma in 2015 before he could testify further. He had reportedly told investigators he could identify victims and witnesses from the names in the book.
Presence in the black book does not imply criminal activity. Many entries are for legitimate business and social contacts.
